I'm thinking about relocating within the next year or so to a more populous city to possibly pursue further education since there aren't many additional professional/educational opportunities here in my field, but NM/Albuquerque has really disappointed me socially. I think this reduces the time they have for socializing.OTOH, other places I've lived, a much larger % of the population is not from there, so less family obligations and more time to socialize. OP compared Albuquerque to Boston but I found it much easier to meet people here than when I lived in Boston for four years. You need to circulate and make friends, which increases access to more people and builds into their networks.Don't be afraid of socializing with people you work with also (this is not dating), since they may introduce you to other people.Meet Up is full of retirees, which isn't a bad thing but really not my peer group.I work with mostly people who are advanced in their field and 5-10 years from retirement - I also wouldn't date co-workers.
After moving here I enjoyed dating people who were very different from me and from the kind of people I was used to in Boston. I found a bar or two here that I liked (learning to dance also helped), and would limit myself to two drinks in an evening. Eventually I settled down with a friend of a friend.
I did join a local running and triathlon group, but same problem. Young Active Singles 20's 30's 40's (Albuquerque, NM) - Meetup Young Professionals of Albuquerque | Young Professionals of Albuquerque About Us Personally, I think ABQ is a difficult city to meet singles in period, any age.
Mostly middle-aged folks, or people who are married with kids. I'm at the age that I should be able to meet singles and empty nesters (for group events) but so many people here are from here and have family obligations.
